Amsterdam Holidays: The Perfect City Break

How easy it is to have fun in your Amsterdam Holidays. To walk on water is a godlike thing until you stand on the Amsterdam ground. Here is a whole capital city on water, the capital city of the Netherlands. And when you hear the phrase “Venice of the North,” there you have Amsterdam.

While Venice is a city in Italy with just canals and no roads, Amsterdam has more canals than Venice and roads. The museums, colorful buildings, and houseboats are a few other things you should be ready to explore on an Amsterdam Holiday.

How Much Time Should You Plan to Spend in you Amsterdam Holidays?

Amsterdam is only a bit over an hour’s flight from London, making it the ideal place to make a quick city break or plan a weekend getaway.

So, are you looking for the perfect location with mixes of culture, amusing events, loads of things that satisfy the eyes but still stand close to home? Then, you will find Amsterdam to be the right place for you. It’s perfect for a bit of break.

You could decide to spend the weekend there with family and friends for an anniversary. Or you could choose to surprise your loved one with a trip to the heart of the Dutch Capital.

In this little time, there’s also so much you can do, from sitting down to a nice cup of coffee in a Dutch Café to discovering the best of Van Gogh’s arts. And when it’s nighttime, you could party hard at the clubs or have a quiet time with your loved one on a boat along any of the Dutch canals.

So, why wait? It’s the perfect fast place to be that still gives you all the fun a tour should.

When’s the Best Time to go for an Amsterdam Holidays?

The best time to visit is… Well, it doesn’t come that easy! It depends on what type of weather you enjoy most. And all year round, Amsterdam has its different seasons with captivating peculiarities.

If you’re visiting Amsterdam between June and early September, you’ll find a busy summer city. These months are the warmest, making your holiday comfortable. The average temperature is around 18⁰C these months, with July being the hottest month.

It gets colder from September to March. Autumn lies between September and November, with November and December being the months with the most rainfalls.

The temperature goes down as low as 9⁰C from December until March. If you’re going in winter, you could see some snowfalls. You could even be lucky to see some of the canals freeze — the perfect opportunity to go ice skating.

If you’d love to visit Amsterdam at a time with fewer tourists, you should go in Autumn or Winter. This is when hotels will reduce their prices due to fewer visitors. So while you have Amsterdam to yourself “literally,” you get to have it at a low budget.

Later, between April and May, Spring comes in Amsterdam. And if you visit around this time, you will get to see the tulips bloom at the Keukenhof Garden.

In Amsterdam, rain falls throughout the year. So while you hope that rain doesn’t disturb your holiday, please include an umbrella in your travel luggage. And to help you further with your preparations, here are some events to look forward to for your Amsterdam holiday.

Events to Witness in Amsterdam

High Fashion

Here is our first suggestion for your Amsterdam Holidays, Stepping into Amsterdam makes it clear you’ve come into a land flowing with fashion and arts. So what better time to visit than the very time when the city’s upcoming designers come out with their work. Every year in January, these come out to showcase their work at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.

So if you travel in January, you get to witness a broad spectrum of fashion-themed exhibitions. Of course, you wouldn’t want to miss the parties that always follow the displays.

Van Gogh & The Bloom

We mentioned earlier that going around April to May is the best time to see Tulips bloom in Amsterdam. In better detail, you can get to witness millions of these tulips and other unique flowers right in Keukenhof.

Here is home to a 32-hectare garden, the largest in the world, where you also get to experience some of Van Gogh’s legacy.

Konigsdag Time

Another event to look forward to in April in your’s Amsterdam Holidays is the party-activated mode on Konigsdag. This is the day after King Willem Alexander’s birthday, where almost a million people gather every year for an open-air celebration.

Grachtenfestival

August is another time to plan an Amsterdam holiday. At this time, the city prepares to host you with ten days of Jazz, classical music, and blues.

So, while coming in August, you could prepare your formal attire for a lovely time in a concert. Or go casual, preferably, to the cool blues jam in beautiful Amsterdam gardens.

Things to Do while in Amsterdam

No matter how satisfying it might be to see these events and leave, it only gets better when you go further to see more that Amsterdam has to offer you.

With its lovely canals and lively bars, Amsterdam remains one of the most visited places in Europe. And to help plan your trip, here are some other things you can do while in Amsterdam.

Go for a Stroll!

With Amsterdam being the perfect place for a short city break away, you get to fill up your eyes the most when you go for a stroll! With its lovely architecture, cobbled streets, and so many stunning sights, you wouldn’t even realize you’ve been at it for hours!

And when you get tired, you can get a lovely Dutch café, sip coffee, and continue enjoying views of the city. You’ll find there’s so much to see. Best you go with your camera, so you get to keep memories in films.

Hire a Bike!

It gets tiring walking, with so much left to see. So, hiring a bike is your next best option to see more of the beauty called “The Dam.” In Amsterdam, you’d see more bikes on the roads than you’ve seen.

And an excellent way to have fun is to tag along with the locals for a little guided tour, and you build up an appetite for any of the Dutch’s superb meals. We can promise you would never get enough of the fondue, though.

For the Culture!

If you’re here to revel in the rich culture, then places you can’t afford to miss include the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. To go further, you can also visit the same house where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary.

And if you’d rather escape the city buzz, you can go to the Vondelpark for a lovely rest. If you’ve got your kids coming with you, the Vondelpark is also the perfect place for some little daddy or mommy time.
