5 Best Hotels in Porto

Hotels in Porto is a topic to consider when planning your holiday in Porto, Portugal. Here’s a city so rich in culture and history it is now a World Heritage Site since 1996.

It’s a place you can eat cod in the Gomes de Sá style and have the world-famous Port wine. All these, while taking in breathtaking views of the River Douro and the iconic Luiz I Bridge.

It’s the perfect location with mixes of culture, a splash of history, fun events, and loads of things that please the eye. You could decide to spend a few days with your friends and family. Or a romantic getaway.

Porto has so much you can do, from enjoying a concert in the Casa da Música or a trip to the National Museum Soares dos Reis. It is also home to FC Porto, one of the best football clubs in Portugal. And staying at any of these hotels make your stay more memorable.

Sheraton Porto Hotel and Spa

N.1 in our list of best Hotels in Porto

One of the best hotels in Porto. Enjoy large, spacious rooms and a modern spa by staying at Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa. It’s barely a minute’s walk from Boavista Avenue.

And you’d feel you’ve walked into the most beautiful chamber with its interior decor of mixed wood, steel, and glass. Staying here was a memorable one with the minibar and a seating area to pass the time.

Our favorite place was no other place than the spa. As you walk here, you’ll notice eight treatment rooms, so you won’t have to worry about not getting attention on time. You can also have an excellent hydro time by the indoor pool. Stay here and unwind.

After all, what’s a Porto trip without the chance to unwind and let your worries flow away. Here, you can also join a yoga class. You see, the Sheraton occupies itself with ensuring you have only a stress-free holiday.

Food isn’t amiss here at Sheraton Porto Hotel too. You get to enjoy the best Portuguese cuisine in the Porto Novo restaurant. And to top it all, you get to complement the tasty meal with a satisfying glass of the best wines.

Another favorite of ours was the hotel lobby with its lovely views of the hotel garden. The closest airport is the Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport. You can also go directly from Porto Airport, which is only 11km away.

And if you’d love to have a bit of concert experience, the Casa da Música Concert Hall and its adjacent metro station are a 10-minute walk away.

Porto River

N.2 in our list of best Hotels in Porto

If your interest lies in having the best river views, your perfect choice is the Porto River aparthotel, our number two in our list of the best hotels in Porto. First off, the location is ideal for having the best time in Porto.

You’ll find the Porto River apartments in the historical Ribeira area in downtown Porto. And as there’s no trip to Porto without the tour by the river and an adventure of wine tasting, then a stay here brings you closer to all the fun Porto has to offer you.

Not only is the location perfect, but their balcony view of the river is also stunning. Wake up to the sunbeam hitting the clear river with a coffee in hand. Or go to bed watching the spectacular sunset over the river.

Even if you’re here for work, the feeling it brings makes it all the best working experience. And, of course, there’s free Wi-Fi on-site for you to work away.

Another thing we loved here was the perfect mix of old and modern architecture. You get to have the best of both worlds — the historic and the new. It’s one of the best stylish hotels we’ve ever stayed. And it gets better with the several Portuguese dishes available. But when it gets dark, a stroll to the many bars around takes all the fun to ecstasy.

Getting here and settling comes with no stress. From getting off the plane at the Porto International Airport to the helpful staff, everything comes hitch-free. You can get there by taxi, Uber, or Metro.

The Metro Porto makes up the Porto transportation network, easy to use and perfect for the occasion. You can see more about its map movements here.

Maison Albar Hotels Le Monumental Palace

N.3 in our list of best Hotels in Porto

Over here, our first impression was the perfect luxury at a peak. The hotel comes from a renovation of one of Porto’s historic buildings. And what you’ll see now is a beauty for the eyes.

This is the perfect place for a luxurious Porto holiday and to meet a staff that makes you feel so special.

Getting here from the airport, the closest being Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, is easy. And the staff welcomes you with bright smiles.

They pay attention to your very needs, and we’ve never met a more attentive set of staff as those in their restaurants.

Oh! Talking about restaurants, the Le Monumental features two. The breakfast is perfect for starting a good day. And the Japanese one serves only the best Japanese dishes.

You’d find the Palace a committed place to your wellness. Here, you can go cool off some steam in the indoor pool, and the sauna is there if you desire the warmth. There’s also a fitness center to stay fit all through your stay.

The bar is an excellent place to stay and drink too. However, given its size, the piano sounds there might come off as being too loud. Still, you get the best experience you could ever wish for in a hotel.

Besides, it has the perfect working environment with free Wi-Fi. So, planning a Porto trip, here is a hotel to consider if you’re ready to pay the price.

Vila Foz Hotel & SPA

N.4 in our list of best Hotels in Porto

Another renovation of an old building — a manor — the Villa Foz Hotel & Spa perfectly combines old with contemporary designs. You’d probably spend minutes admiring the beautiful decor.

Getting here is relatively more straightforward from the Francisco Sá Carneiro. You can find your way or book their shuttle system to pick you up. Once you’re there, in your car, you get to have a parking space. And inside the hotel is a beautiful haven.

First off, the staff shows their proper training with how they interact with you about your needs. And for the best part, after getting your rooms are the lovely ocean views that span the horizon. You could either enjoy the view from the hotel or tally down to the Molhe beach, which is only 50m away.

As a spa, you also get to enjoy some wellness treatment. However, your children below the age of 16 might not be able to have the spa fun with you. For their safety, we suppose. But a stay here was one of our best in Porto.

Eurostars Aliados

N.5 in our list of best Hotels in Porto

One of the top hotels in Porto and in old town city center. From the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, you are only a short trip away from the Eurostars Aliados.

Here’s another hotel with a lovely location. From its terraces, you can enjoy gorgeous views of Porto, and yes! The location it’s perfect, right in the historic area of Porto.

The Clérigos Tower stands close in all its grandness. And if you’ve ever had a bad experience with staff, Eurostars replaces that with the best of all.

The staff is always ready to offer their help. They maintain a clean room here and follow strict COVID-19 protocols. So, you won’t ever feel unsafe with them.

The food here is perfect too, and like the others, it has its spa. You get to work freely in a conducive environment with free Wi-Fi on all floors.

When to Travel to Portugal (Porto)

The best time to travel to Portugal for your holiday is a function of the Porto weather. The climate in Porto is a temperate oceanic one. It comes with mild, rainy winters and pleasantly warm, sunny summers.

Rainfall is, however, a lot here, with the most frequent running through October to May. The best time to visit Porto runs from June to September, since it is the warmest and the least rainy period of the year.

What to See in Porto

So, while you’re here, what are the things you can’t afford to miss? To start with is the Douro River, which you can see from many points in Porto. Other things to look out for include:

  • The Clerigos Tower for a 360-degree view of the city.
